'Edinburgh Festival with the Macfie Collection' was made for the 'Regenerator' project which used discarded library books, and displayed in Bristol in Ap/May 2007.
I was initially dismayed when I recieved the Macfie Collection and found it was a small pamphlett with black and white photos. Not much scope, I thought. But I unstapled it, chose a few of the larger pictures, coloured them, stuck them together (on to specially-acquired paper similar to the original), and restapled them so that the book opens in surprising ways.
Then I cut holes
in the pictures so that you see some of one through another, and
composed a story to link them all together. The story turned out to be
about a performance artist of Japanese heritage who devises a piece in
order to help her boyfriend sell his pottery during Edinburgh Festival.
