‘Beach
Findings’ is based on the efforts of local people to clean up
Morecambe Bay. I visited several litter picking events organised by
Beach Care, Wyre Countryside Park, and Marine Conservation Society over
the summer and autumn 2006 in order to talk to the volunteers. I noted
my own responses. The written pieces were developed from these.
I took photographs of the litter and collected small items of litter.
I made the collagraph plates using some items of litter in each.
The project
was funded by Arts Council England, the national development agency
for the arts, through its Grants for the Arts programme for individuals
and organisations.
It was match-funded by Urban Splash.
In September I received a place on the Artists Access to Art Colleges
(AA2A) at UCLAN, which has enabled me to spend more time developing
the prints.
The project received support in-kind from MBP, a small local charity,
of individuals and organisations concerned with Morecambe Bay, which
runs community projects, including Beach Care litter collection. www.morecambebay.org.uk
